"This is an ideal series to have on DVD -- every viewing reveals a previously-overlooked comedic nuance. The narration by Ron Howard is a work of art in itself, and aspects such as the musical cues accompanying various plot themes and emotional situations are interwoven so skillfully and subtly that the whole production is enriched. I have shared this show with so many people, and no matter whether it's my daughter's punk boyfriend or my 79-year-old mother -- everyone loves it. Citing even a few of the major stars who appear in this series would make this review far too long. I won't go into a rant about the sorry state of American television production which would allow a gem of this quality to slip off the air after only three seasons -- I'm just glad that all the shows are available on DVD."

It usually takes great shows a little time to find their sea legs. Characters are raw and undeveloped, actors aren't quite getting the kind of direction they'll get a season or two down the road, writers a little uncertain where they're going so they leave themselves some wiggle room. Not so with Arrested Development. From the Pilot on it delivers hilarious lines, a consistent yet developing chemistry between characters, and as much consistency in writing as you can expect from a show that isn't especially plot-based.

Although all seasons of this show are fabulous- Season 1 is definitely AD at it's finest. One of the greatest parts about this brilliant show is the continuity of the jokes- which is why it is best to start with season 1 if you are able to. It definitely enhances the laugh factor for the following season "although flashbacks are present" and you really appreciate the love and effort that went into this series.
