An all around great set., August 16, 2010
Viola"Han shot first! OK, now that I have that out of my system I can settle down and enjoy the original Star Wars Trilogy in the best DVD presentation yet.
Star Wars (Episode IV) was my first moviegoing experience, and I will never forget it. I was dazzled, blasted back in my seat, and I knew I would never be the same afterwards. The special features in this boxed set are also terrific. I especially love "Empire of Dreams," the documentary about the making of the Star Wars saga.
Bill Moyers put it correctly, "It's just a lot of fun to watch Star Wars." Whether you watch it for the great visual effects, the great lines -- "Laugh it up, fuzzball!" -- or just to watch someone else watch it who hasn't seen it before, you can never get too much.
Purchase the widescreen version of this series, please! Anything else is a ripoff because they're charging you full price for about half the movie as they chop off 40% to fit it in a square TV frame."
Can't Get Enough, May 26, 2011
BartHow is it possible that I have now bought the exact same (well, almost) movies on video tape for now the FOURTH TIME? Yes, I'm one of those people who own the original letterbox release, the letterbox THX release, and the letterbox Special Edition box set. Now, as soon as Mr. Lucas announces yet another marketing of the Holy Trilogy, I'm there with my credit card on Amazon.com! Heck, I don't even BUY video cassettes anymore, I have a DVD player! Why do I keep shelling out hard earned dollars for the same movies?
VHS quality on the original versions, May 26, 2011
Stanleyok, despite all the negative reviews, i decided to purchase this item anyway, as the enhanced versions are unbearable for me to watch. the good news is that george lucas decided to release a dvd version of the original versions that everyone likes but the bad bad news is that it is not true widescreen (as many reviews here have stated) and the quality is VHS at best. i guess george's goal is to get fans to buy at least 10 versions of star wars. original star wars, on DVD, high quality transfer...is that too much to ask for???
